| Data | Why | Basis | How long |
|---|---|---|---|

| Anonymous visit statistics: page viewed, referring site, browser and device type, country | To count readers and see which stories are useful | Legitimate interest | Collected by Cloudflare Web Analytics without cookies or fingerprinting, and shown to us only as totals |
| A view count per story | To see which stories are read | Legitimate interest | Stored as a number only, without an IP address or identifier |
| Visits by automated crawlers such as Googlebot or GPTBot | To understand how search and AI services read the site | Legitimate interest | We store the crawler name, the page and whether its address matched the company’s published list, not the address itself |
| Your name, comment and IP address, if you comment | To moderate, publish and protect against spam and abuse | Your request to publish the comment; legitimate interest in moderation | As long as the comment stays published; ask us and we remove it |
| Your email address and message, if you write to us | To reply, and to check suggestions and corrections | Your request | As long as needed to deal with it |
We do not build advertising profiles, sell data or make automated decisions about you. The companies, organisations and people we write about do not receive any information about our readers.

Strictly necessary cookies do not need consent, but you can block or delete cookies in your browser; the site will still work, only commenting may not. If we ever add analytics or advertising cookies, we will ask first and update this table before they are switched on.
Fonts and images. Fonts, photos and icons are served from our own server, so viewing them does not contact another company.
Visit statistics. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without cookies. Its script loads from static.cloudflareinsights.com.
Links. Our stories link to other websites. Once you leave Gulf Effect, the other site’s privacy policy applies.
Link previews. Some stories show a card for a linked website or PDF. Its title, description and picture come from that website’s own public sharing information and are stored on our server, so your browser does not contact the other website until you click the card.
Our providers. Our hosting provider (servers in the European Union), Cloudflare, Inc., which delivers and protects the site, and our email provider process data on our behalf. Some of them process data outside the United Arab Emirates, under the contractual safeguards the applicable law requires.
Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or object to processing. Readers in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom have the equivalent rights under the GDPR, including the right to complain to their local data protection authority. Write to [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days.
Gulf Effect is not aimed at children. When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
