When Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone announced that JK DryChem had signed for a plant in Al Ghail, it described a 5,000-square-metre facility, a reported AED6 million investment and an expected start date. RAKEZ later reported an inauguration in September 2026. The two announcements concern the same facility, and each supports a different conclusion. The first gives a project and a plan to follow. The second documents a later milestone. A supplier still needs orders, operating schedules or production records to estimate what the factory might buy. RAKEZ facility announcement, RAKEZ inauguration release.

The same distinction runs through Ras Al Khaimah’s industrial statistics. GDP estimates the economic contribution of manufacturing. A register counts businesses within its own coverage. A labour survey describes people and employment, while a port can state how much cargo its infrastructure is capable of handling. Here is how to put those measures to work when assessing industrial activity in the emirate.

Start with the year and the price basis

Ras Al Khaimah Statistics Center’s 2026 yearbook includes a GDP series through 2024, with the latest year marked preliminary. It puts total nominal GDP at about AED47.16 billion and manufacturing value added at AED10.76 billion in 2024. Manufacturing therefore represented about 22.8% of GDP at current prices. Mining and quarrying, a separate activity in the same accounts, contributed about AED1.23 billion. Keep those lines distinct when following a material from extraction through processing. They capture different parts of the chain. Ras Al Khaimah Statistics Center, Statistical Yearbook 2026.

Within the same yearbook, manufacturing value added increased approximately 12.1% from 2023 to 2024 at current prices and 10.4% at constant prices. The current-price calculation uses AED9.59 billion and AED10.76 billion before rounding. The constant-price calculation uses about AED8.48 billion and AED9.36 billion, with the yearbook using 2010 as its reference. These are changes in sector value added. A rise in real manufacturing value added can reflect changes across products and producers, and says little by itself about how many tonnes of a particular material were made or shipped. Ras Al Khaimah Statistics Center, Statistical Yearbook 2026.

Older summaries can give a different manufacturing share. The emirate’s Investment and Development Office displays 25.9% on a chart whose sources are dated 2022. To compare years, use the matching activity rows in one publication with the same price basis, and keep the edition in your notes. Subtracting the share in an older summary from the share in the current yearbook can mix periods, coverage or publication versions. A registration is a lead. An establishment has a location.

RAKEZ reported around 19,000 new companies in 2025, a rise of 44% from 2024. Services accounted for 40% of registrations, commercial and trading licences for 33%, and e-commerce for 17%. The release counts companies joining RAKEZ across activities. A manufacturer looking for customers or subcontractors would need to identify which of those companies have a workshop or plant, which activity takes place there, and whether staff and machinery are already operating at the site. The residual share after the three reported categories cannot be assigned entirely to manufacturing from this release. RAKEZ 2025 registration release.

One company can use several premises, and a new registration can precede the start of work. For a company selling industrial cleaning, the unit of demand could be a site and a cleaning frequency. A supplier of production software might deal with a corporate buyer once even when the rollout covers multiple sites. Maintain both a company identifier and a site identifier. Give each prospect a stage based on the latest evidence, such as lease signed, equipment being installed, or production confirmed. Then tie the lead value to what the buyer can purchase at that stage.

The Statistics Center’s 2026 Annual Economic Survey announcement adds a different perspective. It described a sample targeting over 3,000 establishments for reference year 2025, across manufacturing and several other activities. The collection covers employment, revenues, expenditures and fixed assets, among other variables. The sample target describes the reach of the survey. It cannot supply the number of manufacturing establishments, or the size of their contribution, before the relevant estimates are available. Keep the survey reference year separate from the year the fieldwork began. Ras Al Khaimah Statistics Center survey announcement.

Follow the Al Ghail project through its milestones

RAKEZ’s original announcement associated AED6 million with setting up the JK DryChem facility and said it was scheduled to begin operations in January 2026. In September, RAKEZ reported that JK Cement had inaugurated the Al Ghail unit for construction chemicals and additives. RAKEZ’s September Instagram carousel shows the ribbon-cutting at the Al Ghail facility. The inauguration release documents the milestone and the post supplies a view of it. The two announcements do not establish the precise date when the first commercial batch was made, how much capital was paid out during a given quarter or the plant’s utilisation. RAKEZ initial announcement, RAKEZ inauguration release, RAKEZ on Instagram.

An installation vendor would want the dates for equipment acceptance and the work still under warranty. A packaging supplier needs compatible pack sizes, purchasing responsibility and repeat batch schedules. A haulier needs pickup and delivery points, loading arrangements and the frequency of dispatches. All three can follow the same opening announcement without making the same forecast. In an investment tracker, record the announced project amount once and append later evidence to its row. Treat a separate expansion as a new item only when its scope and amount can be identified.

Employment and logistics each need their own denominator

Ras Al Khaimah’s December 2025 Labour Force Survey reported that services accounted for 60.4% of employment by broad economic branch and industry for 35.8%. The industry share comes from a different classification and denominator from manufacturing’s GDP share. It also concerns employment, which describes people already working. A plant planning an extra shift needs to check whether the relevant technicians and operators can be recruited for that location, pay and schedule. A record of vacancies, qualified applicants, interviews and accepted offers can show where a hiring plan is breaking down. Ras Al Khaimah Statistics Center Labour Force Survey 2025.

Similarly, RAK Ports describes Saqr Port as having annual cargo handling capacity above 100 million tonnes. Its marine information guide identifies aggregate exports as an important use of the port. Capacity measures what the facility can handle, while throughput measures what moved during a stated interval. Neither can be converted into factory revenue from weight alone. Aggregates and packaged products can use different handling arrangements, and an operator should check the terminal, equipment, storage and schedule for the actual cargo. A port headline is a starting point for those discussions. RAK Ports Saqr Port profile, RAK Ports marine information guide.

An industrial carrier testing a lane can separate plant output, cargo available for its service, and trips it can actually operate. For example, a plant may make a product in batches throughout the week, but consolidate collections into two windows. The carrier’s opportunity depends on how many dispatches it can take, whether return loads exist and the cost of time spent waiting. Transport economics can worsen as loads become less predictable even if output at the plant holds steady. A sample of scheduled and completed dispatches would help establish that difference.

Build a forecast that changes with the evidence

Suppose a Ras Al Khaimah maintenance supplier identifies ten plants with compatible equipment. Four have confirmed a service window in the next quarter and two have invited the supplier to quote. At AED18,000 per service visit, two accepted quotes would represent AED36,000 in revenue. With AED11,000 of direct costs per visit, contribution before fixed costs would be AED14,000. If only one quote becomes an order, those figures fall to AED18,000 and AED7,000. This is an illustration, with no assumed revenue from the other eight plants. The supplier can move prospects into the quote stage as it confirms scope and access.

Timing affects the forecast even when the number of jobs stays the same. If a plant moves a shutdown into the following quarter, the technician may be free this quarter while the related invoice moves out. Record the work date, acceptance date and expected payment date separately. A customer who wants a faster response may justify keeping parts in the emirate if orders recur often enough, but that inventory decision depends on measured consumption and service terms. A regional GDP growth rate provides context for the sales effort. It cannot tell the business when it will be paid.

For each new figure, write down the publisher, reference period, geography, unit and latest release date. Then specify what would change the forecast. A new registration can add a company to a watchlist. A confirmed operating site can justify a visit. A requested quote with a maintenance date can support an estimate for the quarter. A signed order with agreed terms can support staffing or purchasing. Keeping these decisions in separate columns lets a business use evidence from across Ras Al Khaimah without counting a new plant, its expected output and its future purchases as if they had already happened.

Questions to settle before sharing a market estimate

How should I treat two announcements with different dates?

Record the date of publication and the date of the event separately. If a release gives an expected start month and a later release reports an opening, save both under the same project. A production date belongs in a separate field and needs evidence that directly supports it. For a supplier, a confirmed purchase schedule can matter more than the date of the opening ceremony.

What if an industrial customer reports capacity but keeps output private?

Use the stated capacity as context and ask what period, product mix and shift pattern it assumes. For a proposal, look for a minimum order, a planned service interval or a trial batch with a documented quantity. A customer may use the same equipment for different products, so even a verified total output figure might need a breakdown to estimate demand for a single input.

How should I handle a newer source with a different definition?

Preserve both definitions, then choose the one that answers the decision. If a new zone release adds registrations while a statistical release counts operating establishments, keep both series. The first can guide prospecting and the second can help describe the operating base. Use consistent definitions within each trend.
